HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE

Recycling Hazardous Materials

Household Hazardous Wastes  (HHW) have at least one of the following characteristics: ignitability, corrosivity, chemical reactivity, or toxicity.

HHW items include: oil based paint, gasoline, fertilizers, pesticides, weed killers, some cleaners, used motor oil, antifreeze, pool chemicals, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, photographic developer chemicals, solvents, and much, much more.

If these materials are not properly used or disposed of, they can damage our air, water and land — and can endanger human health.

We cannot accept used motor oil or antifreeze. Please call us for information of proper disposal.

HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES

We accept rechargeable batteries including:

  • Cell phone batteries
  • Button batteries (watch/hearing aid)
  • Laptop batteries
  • Tool batteries
  • Ni-Cd (nickel-cadmium or Ni-Cad)
  • NiMH (nickel metal hydride or Ni-MH)
  • Lithium and Lithium-ion

We also accept:

  • Small, sealed lead acid batteries (automotive)

Alkaline batteries can be placed into your household trash. For more information about batteries read about Battery Disposal.

Alkaline batteries are not recyclable and should be disposed of in your household trash.

LATEX PAINT

Only thoroughly cleaned paint cans are able to be recycled

To dispose of old water-based latex paint, remove lid and allow to dry out. Once properly dried and solidified it can be placed into your household trash.

  • Remove lid, place in well ventilated area and add cat litter, dry leaves or sawdust to dry out remaining paint. Place in household trash when thoroughly dried.
